When it comes to sports and fitness, instead of enrolling your kids in the usual activities like baseball, basketball or swim lessons try one of these unique fitness classes around Columbus. If your little one is itching to try something a little out of the ordinary, this list offers truly out-of-the-box options that may be just the ticket.
Yoga On High
Erika Roh...: Yoga on High offers a variety of classes for babies and kids. Mommy and Baby classes provide the best time to bond with your little one (age 6 weeks to crawling) as you work on getting your post-baby body stronger. Their kids yoga classes teach relaxation and body awareness.

Ohio Coralinas Synchro
Hannah Scott: Both artistic and athletic, synchronized swimming with Ohio Coralinas is a perfect opportunity to hone skills like teamwork, leadership, acceptance, discipline, and responsibility. Columbus Curling Club
Shila: Learn the unique sport of curling at the Columbus Curling Club. This can be a competitive sport or not. Led by certified instructors, youth programs include instruction, game play, and socializing. The main prerequisite is being able to maneuver a 42-44 pound rock of granite on ice over 100 feet. Youth classes/teams and trial drop-in sessions are open to kids and juniors.
Spin and Smash Table Tennis
Hannah Scott: The youth program at Spin and Smash offers a chance for kids to experience table tennis coaching several times per week. Students learn 1-2 fundamentals of table tennis at a time (including serving, footwork, looping, defense, blocking, and more), and engage in practice matches to hone their skills. No experience is needed to join.

Ice Skating Classes at Chiller Ice Rinks
Hannah Scott: Ice skating is one of the few sports that allows you to enroll your kids as young as age 3! The OhioHealth Chiller Ice Rinks offer a range of classes beginning with the foundational skills they'll need to move onto competitive or recreational skating.
Classes include a 30 minute lesson each week, followed by a 10 minute skate period. Skate and bike helmet rental is also included, along with free public skate sessions on Saturdays to practice new skills. (Family and friends pay $3 admission and $3 skate rental if they tag along.)

Zumba Kids at Brickhouse Cardio Club
Katie G.: Zumba is a great way to keep kids active and healthy. The high-energy classes offered at Brickhouse Cardio Club in Gahanna are perfect for little ones who love to dance. Columbus Saber Academy

At Columbus Saber Academy kids can learn the techniques of lightsaber combat training in Eastern and Western Martial Arts. They will have a blast learning the proper strategies, techniques and footwork using lightsabers. Kids classes are offered throughout the week with open bouting on the weekends.

Aerial Acrobatic Classes - Aerotique Columbus
Hannah Scott: If your child is the type to climb and swing like a monkey on every playground you encounter, they will LOVE the circus arts classes at Aerotique Columbus! The Youth Beginner Aerial class includes the low flying trapeze, silks, and rings. The Youth Acrobatics/Tumbling Class spends more time on the ground with tumbling, flips, partner acrobatics, and more. Hannah Scott: Royal Arts is a kid-friendly training center that offers fencing classes to a wide range of ages and abilities. Most classes follow a theme -- including Royal Knights, Lightsaber, Japanese Sword Class, Historical Fencing, and Ninja Kids -- and cover the foundational skills and movements of Olympic style sport fencing.

Disc Golf at Columbus Metro Parks
Hannah Scott: Steadily gaining popularity, disc golf (also called Frisbee Golf) is a sport in which Frisbees are thrown into metal baskets across a course, often as big as 30-40 acres. Columbus has a broad network of free courses across the area (often in public parks), so you can practice this sport with your child whenever you'd like. The only equipment needed is a Frisbee!

D1 Sports Training
Katie G.: D1 Sports Training facility provides strength, agility, flexibility and work ethic training for young athletes. Whether you child plays basketball, volleyball or soccer, D1 can help him/her improve their skills by using plyometrics, weight training and speed mechanics. Classes are broken down by age with the Rookie class serving kids 7-14, Developmental class serving kids 12-14 and the Prep class serving kids 15-18. If Mom and Dad want to get involved, D1 offers a Family class where the whole family can participate for one monthly fee.

Profencing Fencing Training Center Epee Class
Katie G.: Profencing is Columbus's premier fencing center offering training for people of all ages. Fencing is a great way for kids to exercise their minds and their body. Kids (ages 9 and up), teens and adults can participate in the Epee Class taught by former Ohio State and NCAA champion Marco Canevarie. Epee fencing uses the entire body as a target area, as opposed to other forms of fencing. Participants will learn the skills and techniques needed to compete while having fun. All equipment will be provided.

KSM Sports and Fitness Nerf War League
Katie G.: KSM Sports and Fitness is an indoor sports facility offering large, open turf fields for participants to train and enjoy. KSM hosts a 6-week Nerf War League for kids of all ages. Kids will compete in many different Nerf gun games including Team, Battle Royale, Last Man Standing and other games. There will be plenty of obstacles on the course as well as a referee. Bring your own gun or rent one for $5 on a first-come, first-served basis. KSM will provide all protective eye wear and plenty of Nerf darts for all. See website for dates and times.

Youth Archery at Ace Archers
Hannah Scott: Ace Archers takes an "open house" approach to their Tuesday and Thursday group lessons -- you and your child can come and try it out for free before deciding if they want to sign up for a full series of lessons! The beginner course covers the basic rules, skills, and games. The intermediate course moves on to form, mental considerations, and tournament preparation. Each lesson in the course is 90 minutes, and equipment is provided.
