Mad River Mountain

Katie G.: Mad River Mountain is known as Ohio's largest winter resort. Located in central Ohio, there are 20 trails and 12 lifts to the top of the 1400+ foot mountain. With an expansive snow making system, you'll often find snow. Skiing and snowboarding lessons are available to people of all ages and abilities and rentals are available on site. Warm up in the lodge and enjoy a snack or lunch in the cafeteria or Mad River Loft Bar and Grill. AvalancheTubing Park has 10 lanes stretching 1000 feet.
Snow Trails
Katie G.: Spend the day at Snow Trails where you and the family can enjoy skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing. This family-run resort is located in Mansfield, and offers fresh and man-made snow on the slopes. There are several trails available for all skill levels. The resort features 4 triple chairlifts, 2 double chairlifts, 2 ski conveyor carpet lifts, 1 tubing conveyor carpet, and a terrain-based learning area perfect for beginners. Lessons are available for all skill levels and equipment can be rented at the resort. Take a break and visit one of the several dining options for a snack or drink.
Perfect North Slopes
Katie G.: Located in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Perfect North Slopes offers skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. Trails at Perfect North range from beginner to difficult and terrain parks allow skiers to perfect their tricks. Equipment rentals are offered on site and lessons are available for skiers (ages 4+). The main lodge offers food and drinks and a ski shop to stock up on the latest ski gear.
Swiss Valley Ski & Snowboard Area
Kristy Pepping: Swiss Valley Ski & Snowboard Area offers 11 runs, a 225 vertical foot peak (highest in Southwest Michigan) and seven lifts, including 2 quads and one triple. When you are done zipping down the hills, head indoors to the restaurant for a bite to eat. A great option for families is Sunday Fun Day where families can enjoy discounted ski and rental packages.
Timber Ridge Ski Area
Kristy Pepping: Timber Ridge Ski Area is a family-owned and operated ski resort that boasts shorter lines, quick lift rides, a variety of ski slopes, including multiple beginner hills, numerous intermediate slopes, a multitude of wooded trails, a snow tubing park, expert runs, and two terrain parks. They offer private ski lessons for skiers as young as four-years old and group lessons for ages seven to adult.
Bittersweet Resort
Kristy Pepping: Bittersweet Ski Resort is located in Otsego, Michigan. This recreational facility contains 350 vertical feet, 20 runs, 7 chairs lifts, 3 wonder carpets, and 1 rope tow. There is great fun to be had for the true beginner skier or snowboarder to the more advanced. If your little ones are scared of the chairlift, Bittersweet has a magic carpet that takes kids up the beginner hill with ease. For a little instruction, try the ski school which caters to all ages and abilities. If the drive is a little too long for a day-trip, Bittersweet suggests a few nearby hotels to make a weekend of it.
Paoli Peaks
Kristy Pepping: Paoli Peaks offer both skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing. This hill is great for beginners as well as advanced skiers. There are ski rentals on site and also a lodge offering a place to warm up. Within this lodge, they offer full equipment rentals including skis, snowboards, boots and helmets. There are also coin-operated lockers for storing items while hitting the slopes. And if you are hungry after zipping down the hill, there is a restaurant as well! Make sure to check the snow report before coming!
Villa Olivia
Kristy Pepping: Downhill skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing are right here in your backyard. Villa Olivia is just a short drive from anywhere in the Chicago area. With 100% snow making, ski and snowboard lessons for all levels, and rental equipment available, they have something for everyone. The hill includes seven runs, a chairlift, six rope tows, and a tubing hill.
Wilmot Mountain
Molly Weber: Wilmot Mountain offers great opportunities for winter family fun, including skiing, snowboarding and tubing. With nearly 120 skiable acres, 25 trails, 7 lifts, 2 surface conveyor lifts and 4 progression terrain parks with a double high speed rope tow, there is enough terrain to challenge experts to beginners, day or night.
Grand Geneva Resort & Spa
Molly Weber: The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa boasts 20 downhill ski runs and terrain designed for all ages, groups and abilities. Check out their awesome kid dedicated group skiing lessons, which are tailored to appropriately suit each age group (3-6 and 7-14). There are a variety of restaurant options onsite or nearby to pick from when your family needs a break to refuel before hitting the slopes again!
Alpine Valley Resort
Molly Weber: The resort features over 100 acres of ski area with 20 runs and a vertical drop of 388 feet. The longest run is 3,000 feet. What's great about this resort is their beginner's section is enclosed, allowing the less confident and experienced skiers to practice their skills in a safe space. In this same section, there is also a carpet lift, allowing beginners to stand with ease and be pulled to the top of the slope. They also have some pretty cool ski-in/ski-out with a full service bistro!
