40 Spooky & Sweet Halloween Books for Kids

Tracy Snyder Molina:  A cute children's Halloween book about a witch and her cat giving rides on their broom to a bunch of animals who help them out.

Brittany Kozielski:  These books can be a little scary and may not be appropriate for all younger readers, but they also have a lot of humor to them. The characters are always kids or teens trying to solve some creepy mystery, and since each of the books tells a different story, they can be read in any order. My 2nd grader loves all of these books!

Beth Wood:  A retelling of the favorite Halloween classic! Join Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang as they celebrate Halloween with costume parties, trick or treating and Linus waiting in the pumpkin patch each night for the appearance of his hero, The Great Pumpkin.

Beth Wood:  Pete the Cat is my son's favorite character! This Halloween picture book lets the reader turn a flap to find a surprise on nearly every page as Pete goes trick or treating.

Beth Wood:  Little Blue Truck is picking up his animal friends for a costume party in his Halloween book for kids!

Beth Wood:  Goodnight Goon is a parody of one of the all-time best picture books. It follows Goodnight Moon's rhyming and cadence but throws in some Halloween twists as one little goon is tucked in for sleep!

This cute tale includes sounds of the season such as creaking, crunching and tapping and colorful illustrations which will put any child in the Halloween spirit.

Beth Wood:  Brother and Sister Bear go trick-or-treating alone with their friends for the first time. The bears learn some valuable lessons on right and wrong while out on their adventurous Halloween night.

Brigitte Nohra Miller:  This cute Halloween board book is very interactive with hand-play motions that you and your baby or toddler will enjoy reading together.

Sue Krawitz Tandoc:  This silly Halloween book is a twist on "The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly," and the lady swallows a ghost, goblin, wizards and more.

Tracy Snyder Molina:  A brave little old lady is walking home in the woods when she encounters a pair of shoes. She tells them she isn't afraid of them and continues on her way. This routine repeats itself several times with a pair of pants, shirt, gloves, hat and pumpkin head. Despite their best efforts, they aren't able to scare the little old lady and this makes them sad but she comes up with a plan that makes everyone happy in the end. Full of repetition and fun noises, this book is great to read out loud.

Sue Krawitz Tandoc:  This is a cute book for Halloween and the fall season with math and science lessons of counting and pumpkin facts including how to know which pumpkins have more seeds than others.

Beth Wood:  This fun Halloween book is a humorous spin on The Wheels on the Bus, where the bus takes a trip picking up passengers on Halloween.

Tracy Snyder Molina:  We discovered this Halloween book in preschool and my kids can still recite it by heart! A witch plants a pumpkin seed so she can make a pumpkin pie, but she needs help when it grows too big for her her to pull it from the vine.

Beth Wood:  Llama gets ready to celebrate in this fun rhyming Halloween book for toddlers and preschoolers. Picking out a costume, getting a jack-o-lantern ready and going trick or treating are all a part of Llama's Halloween adventure.
