Things to do in Traverse City with kids include visiting the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Great Lakes Children's Museum, and Traverse Tall Ship Company sail excursions. Don't miss its annual Cherry Festival if you can!

Wander the large exploratory maze at the Savannah Children's Museum, and enjoy the shaded playground and splash pad at Forsyth Park. Tybee Island is a short drive from downtown, where families can enjoy a day at the beach, take a dolphin tour, and visit the Tybee Island Marine Center.

Take a ferry to the Statue of Liberty, catch a show on Broadway, visit the Empire State Building, take a stroll through Central Park, take in the views from the High Line, and make your way to Chinatown and Little Italy. And where do I even begin about the food - you'll find any cuisine you've ever dreamed of here.

In winter, two resorts (Snow Summit Ski Resort and Bear Mountain) invite visitors to enjoy snow play and sports, while the rest of the seasons offer recreation in fishing, boating, hiking, rock climbing, and other outdoor activities. There's even a wildlife rehabilitation zoo to visit where native species get the help they need to thrive. Plan ahead and visit during one of the area's seasonal events for even more family fun.

Monarch butterflies make their seasonal flight to nearby Pacific Grove at the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. While you're in PG, visit the Point Pinos Lighthouse (the oldest existing lighthouse on the West Coast!) for a tour or check out the Museum of Natural History (the bird collection is magnificent!). There's plenty of shopping along Cannery Row, but my kids' favorite is the Dennis the Menace Playground at El Estero Park--complete with views of the bay from the play equipment.
