Casper (1995)
Carly Follett: Casper the friendly ghost lives in the old Whipstaff Manor with his three mischievous uncles, when a ghost therapist arrives with his daughter to exorcise them.
Trolls (2016)
Kelly R.: The storyline (trolls try to escape being ritualistically eaten by giants) can be a little intense for sensitive kids, but the humor and the awesome musical numbers appeal to everyone. Plus, it introduces our kids to two of our favorite things from growing up - trolls and Justin Timberlake.
Klaus (2019)
Kelly R.: An original backstory about how the legend of Santa came to be, this is the beautifully animated and beautifully told story of an unlikely friendship between a reluctant postman and a reclusive toymaker. It focuses on the spirit of giving rather than magic and elves, and is filled with funny and poignant moments. This Netflix film instantly became one of my family's favorite Christmas movies for kids!
Hook (1991)
Beth Wood: Hook is Steven Spielberg's fantastical retelling of Peter Pan. It stars Hollywood legends Robin Williams as Peter Pan, Dustin Hoffman as Hook, and Julia Roberts as Tink.
Paddington (2014)
Kelly R.: The literary bear with a soft spot for marmalade travels from Peru to London and is taken in by the Brown family. Belly laughs ensue as Paddington adjusts to his new life and tries to escape being added to the collection at the Natural History Museum. My family has enjoyed this more than once, and we loved the sequel too!
Goosebumps (2015)
Kelly R.: Heavy on action and humor, this scary movie for kids features the monsters from the beloved Goosebumps book series and Jack Black in the role of author R.L. Stine.
Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)
Kelly R.: Quirky claymation duo Wallace and Gromit are tasked with protecting the town's upcoming giant vegetable competition from rabbits, including the monstrous Were-Rabbit. A fun Halloween movie for kids of all ages that incorporates horror elements in a non-threatening way.
